To celebrate outdoor water conservation, Abbotsford and Mission are resuming the Go for Gold Contest to encourage residents to practice water conservation, share their accomplishments, and to recognize residents who have made exceptional effort conserving water this summer.
Contest is open to residents of Abbotsford and Mission who are municipal water customers and have maintained a lawn (mowed and kept) that has not been watered since July 31.
First, second and third prizes will be chosen by staff from the Cities of Abbotsford and Mission.
Bonus points will be awarded to properties that have plant alternatives and features that are waterwise; such as waterwise perennial, fire-smart, wildlife-safe, pollinator-friendly and non-invasive plantings. Additional points will also be awarded to properties that have vegetable gardens
Winners will be chosen by photo submissions but may also include a site visit by staff for verification.
Contest is open only to residents of Abbotsford and Mission who are municipal water customers only. Properties served by the Clearbrook Waterworks District or by private wells are ineligible (but still encouraged to conserve water!).
Three prizes will be awarded in each municipality:
- First ($150)
- Second ($75)
- Third ($50)
Prizes will be awarded in the form of a credit on their next water bill. There is no cash value. Winners will be notified by November 17, 2026. Prizes must be accepted as awarded.
